Johannesburg is the wealthiest city in South Africa, which is considered to be a famous tourist place. This city acts as a main center for flights from many destinations. Many passengers who board these flights must stay overnight, or some hours to catch their next flight. Many visitors to the city of Johannesburg are facing the same situation.

Your stay will be pleasurable in Johannesburg as it is attracting tourist world wide for its fascinating locations. The main Tourist spot, which Johannesburg has to offer, is its Historical place and Art museums, which has renowned Apartheid museum. The Museum is devoted to the Apartheid movement in 20th history of South Africa. Apartheid means “Separateness” which has occurred due to differences between races and was prevalent in 1948- 1994, and Apartheid ignited a huge insurgency.

The Hector Pierson Museum is an additional museum that is also good to see. The site of the museum is almost a two block distance from where Hector Pierson was murdered in Orlando West, Soweto, South Africa. This was Soweto's first museum. There are displays of the activities that started the Anti-Afrikaan Soweto revolution.

There are so many other museums that are situated in Johannesburg and they are all entirely dedicated to art like the Johannesburg Art Gallery. The Johannesburg Art Gallery is containing 15 exhibition halls, housing paintings and other artifacts from 17th century Dutch painters. Moreover, it is occupied with arts from 18th to 19th century British and European art and also 20th century local art. Actually, the Johannesburg art gallery was initiated in 1910. But at that time, its entire building construction was not finished completely. When Sir Edwin was working in the building for further construction, the exhibitions were held in the University of Witwatersrand. The architect Sir Edwin was the South African who came to design the building in 1910.

Museum Africa, established in 1933, showcases the history of Johannesburg through books on its history and culture. It also contains collections from across the globe. It adopted its current name and design in 1994, after the fall of Apartheid.

The Market Theater, situated on the other side of Museum Africa was created in 1974 by a team of artists and in 1996 it was accessible to the general society. In the 1980s this was one of the rare places where black and white people could socialize in harmony. Music, theater, dancing and various entertainment genres were available at this theater.

Besides a variety of museums, Johannesburg also features several other tourist attractions that make the city a great destination. One of the best known is Gold Reef City; a large amusement park located on top of an old gold mine and designed to recreate the 1880's through its architecture and the costumes of its staff.

If you want to know what it was like to mine for gold in the 1880's, go to Gold Reef City, where the people who work there do the fashions of that time. The museum on the premises will demonstrate how gold was mined and then refined. It's not all information, however, and you can do fun things like rides such as the Anaconda. It's the world's highest, quickest, and only upside-down roller coaster.
