Family members are prone to having disagreements when working together, which is another reason not to act as your child’s maths tutor.  The fact that you know each other so well means that you are more likely to become impatient and annoyed if things aren’t going well.  As a result the parent can often become frustrated and angry with their child, which isn’t a constructive environment to work in.  Bringing in a professional maths tutor who doesn’t have any personal relationship with your child will mean a more relaxed and patient atmosphere.
